Trend Report: Paul Smith Shakes it up!

Leading British fashion designer, Paul Smith reverts to the quintessence of his roots when he renders the classic notion of a Shakesperean character for his Spring/Summer 2009 line, ergo making it more relatable and edgy. Archetype Shakesperean characters such as Yorick (Hamlet) Oberon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet) are adapted to modern day culture when screen-printed onto organic t-shirts, as well as eco-friendly, re-useable bags embellished with Smith’s “Never Assume” coat of arms. Smith transliterate Yorick, Oberon, and Mercutio roles in each of the stories as a contemporary “Rock’N’Rolla”, a madman, and the inevitable “boy next door” respectively.

As a Shakespearean literature enthusiast, translating passion into a fashion trend is a phenomenon waiting to explode. Are you the “boy/girl next door”, the crazy “Rock’N’ Rolla”, or that madman? It’s up to you! Come get the limited edition T-shirts from February 2009 at Paul Smith Jeans Stores; 9-11 Langley Court, WC2E 9JY and 10 Byard Lane, Nottingham, NG1 2GJ.
